Cardedu, which today boasts about 2000 inhabitants, owes its birth to a natural calamity and, more precisely, to the flood that heavily hit Sardinia in 1951, when the inhabitants of the nearby Gairo were forced to leave their homes, moving to the plain and giving birth to three new centres: Gairo Cardedu, Gairo Sant’Elena and Gairo Taquisara.Today Gairo vecchio is among the most famous and evocative ghost towns in Sardinia. Thanks to its location in the centre of Ogliastra, Cardedu is the ideal place not only to reach mountain sites of unique natural beauty but also to enjoy the long coastline of Marina di Cardedu. Some beaches are also easily accessible by bicycle from Hotel Cardedu such as Museddu, Perda e Pera and Su Sirboni beach. Long stretches of white sand with the colours of the water enhanced by the mistral breeze where you can spend hours relaxing and having fun, thanks also to the numerous services on the beach.
